These guidelines establish the standards for every book published on Yearn — so readers can trust what they pick up, and authors know exactly where the platform stands.

1. Introduction

Welcome to our romantasy book community! These content guidelines establish the standards for all books published on our platform. Our mission is to provide readers with high-quality romantasy fiction while fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for creators and readers alike.

All authors, publishers, and content creators must adhere to these guidelines. Violation of these policies may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban from the platform.

2. Content Scope & Definition

Romantasy is a genre that blends romance and fantasy elements. Books on our platform should feature both fantasy world-building or magical elements as well as romantic relationship(s). The romantic storyline can be integral to the plot or a subplot. We accept established and emerging genres, including but not limited to:

3. Acceptable Content

We are committed to a platform that welcomes challenging content, as well as reader safety and well-being.

We know that the romantasy genre often deals with very mature themes and content, including explicit sexual content, sexual assault, dubious consent, physical or emotional abuse, torture, forced labor, violence or gore tied to narrative stakes, kidnapping or captivity, self-harm, suicide ideation or attempt, murder or homicide, character death and grief, mental health, eating disorders, substance use or addiction, infertility, pregnancy or pregnancy loss, reproductive coercion, and explorations of grief, identity, and agency ("Mature Themes"). Our platform allows this type of content only when handled responsibly, with narrative purpose, and accompanied by clear content warnings. We urge authors to err on the side of caution when dealing with this type of content. Readers may have their settings adjusted to filter out certain content, and authors are required to flag and properly identify their works that contain these types of mature content.

Readers should avoid books that contain content they find objectionable or triggering and can adjust content filtering in their account settings. All content warnings should be taken seriously.

4. Prohibited Content

Yearn allows Mature Themes only when handled responsibly, with narrative purpose, age-appropriate categorization, and proper content warnings. Mature Themes and related mature content that appears gratuitous, promotes real-world harm, illegal behavior, or targeted abuse is not permitted. The following content is prohibited and will result in immediate removal and potential account termination. Users who encounter suspected illegal content should report it immediately to legal@yearn.media.

1) Illegal Content

Yearn prohibits any content that violates local, state, federal, or international law. This includes the production, distribution, or depiction of child sexual abuse material, instructions for illegal activities such as weapons creation or violent acts, human trafficking or exploitation, and content tied to criminal organizations or terrorism. Content must not facilitate, encourage, or materially support illegal behavior, regardless of narrative framing.

2) Offensive or Harmful Content

Yearn does not permit content that promotes or glorifies harmful, abusive, or discriminatory behavior. This includes sexual content involving minors, non-consensual sexual acts, incest, bestiality, depictions of self-harm or suicide that encourage replication, and extremist or violent ideologies. In addition, content that targets individuals or groups based on protected characteristics (such as race, gender, sexuality, religion, or disability) is not allowed. Content must not endorse, excuse, or normalize real-world harm, discrimination, or abuse.

3) Plagiarized or Infringing Content

All content submitted must be original work owned or properly licensed by the author. Plagiarism, unauthorized use of copyrighted characters or settings, and submitting work authored by someone else are strictly prohibited. Copyright holders may submit DMCA takedown notices to legal@yearn.media with detailed information about the alleged infringement as provided in our copyright policy.

4) Artificial Intelligence

Authors using artificial intelligence tools must disclose this usage prior to publication and ensure that all work demonstrates substantial human creativity and editorial control. Content that is AI-generated without meaningful human involvement does not meet Yearn's quality standards. These requirements ensure that creators' rights are respected, readers can trust the authenticity of what they consume, and the platform maintains creative and ethical standards.

5. Author Responsibilities

All authors on our platform are expected to accurately categorize their books with appropriate age ratings and content warnings, respond professionally to reader feedback and platform communications, and update book descriptions and metadata to reflect content accurately. Authors must maintain professional conduct in their author profile and public interactions, notify the platform of any copyright disputes or concerns, and ensure all promotional materials comply with these guidelines. Additionally, authors have a responsibility to report violations of these guidelines by other users to help maintain a safe and respectful community environment for all members.

6. Community Standards

Our platform is built on mutual respect between authors and readers. We expect all community members to treat others with respect and courtesy, engage in constructive dialogue and feedback, and refrain from harassment, bullying, or personal attacks. Members should respect others' perspectives and creative choices, avoid review manipulation or fake ratings, and maintain confidentiality of unreleased content.

By fostering a supportive and professional environment, we create a space where creativity can flourish and readers can discover stories they love while authors receive meaningful, respectful feedback that helps them grow in their craft. Failure to adhere to these community standards may result in warnings, temporary restrictions on commenting or reviewing privileges, account suspension, or permanent removal from the platform depending on the severity and frequency of violations.

7. Enforcement Actions

Violations may result in content removal, required content revision before republication, temporary account suspension, permanent account termination for severe or repeated violations, or legal action in cases of illegal content. The severity of the enforcement action is in the discretion of Yearn, though Yearn may consider such factors as the nature and frequency of the violation, whether it appears intentional or inadvertent, and whether the author has demonstrated willingness to comply with platform guidelines. Authors may appeal moderation decisions within 14 days by contacting our support team (hello@yearn.media). Appeals will be reviewed by a separate moderation team member and resolved within 5 business days.

8. How to Report Violations

If you encounter content that violates these guidelines, please email legal@yearn.media, providing specific details about the violation and including relevant page numbers or quotes if applicable. For urgent safety concerns, contact hello@yearn.media immediately. We will investigate all claims promptly and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and integrity of our platform.

9. Updates to Guidelines

These content guidelines may be updated periodically to reflect community needs, legal requirements, and platform growth. Continued use of the platform after actual or constructive receipt of notice constitutes acceptance of updated guidelines.
